Description
About the role
We are seeking a collaborative and ambitious colleague who is committed to shaping a sustainable future and has a passion for both research and teaching to join our Chemical Engineering community at Bath. You will contribute to the growth of our research in future-focused sustainable technologies and inspire the next generation of chemical engineers. Our highly regarded chemical engineering degree programmes equip students to tackle global challenges such as climate change and the sustainable provision of water, energy, food, and wellbeing. The Department offers a supportive and collaborative environment, with extensive national and international collaborations, excellent research and teaching facilities, and strong links with industry.
The Department currently holds an Athena SWAN Silver Award, reflecting our commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We actively foster an inclusive and supportive culture for staff and students, irrespective of gender identity, ethnicity, or cultural background, and are committed to achieving genuine equity of opportunity for all members of our community.
Application Requirements & Selection Process:
Together with a full CV, please fully complete the online application form and provide two statements, each of up to two pages:
- A research statement which should include your vision and plans including an outline of how you will establish independent research at Bath. Your research statement needs to outline your plans and intentions for research activity and grant capture over the coming five years. This document will be treated in the strictest confidence and with full respect for ownership.
- A second document describing your teaching vision and plans. This should explain how your experience and qualifications enable you to teach across the full range of our chemical engineering degrees, and how you would support their future development. Please also outline your approach to incorporating systems thinking throughout the curriculum. In addition, describe how you promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in your everyday work, particularly when teaching and mentoring students and researchers. Finally, explain how you have helped create a positive, respectful, and supportive environment for both staff and students.
Both documents are mandatory components of the selection process, without which we will be unable to progress your application.
About you
You will bring a strong interdisciplinary track record in life cycle assessment (LCA), systems thinking, and/or material flow analysis (MFA), grounded in chemical engineering. You will play a key role in teaching across our programmes and in building links with researchers across the Faculty of Engineering and Design. Your research will focus on quantifying environmental impacts across complex systems, applying systems-level approaches to evaluate trade-offs, resource constraints, and pathways towards more sustainable futures, and align with one of our Research Centres. Additional opportunities for collaboration are provided through the Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change (ISCC). You will also have access to doctoral researchers through programmes such as the CDT in Sustainable Chemical Technologies: A Systems Approach.
