The Statistics department at Universidade de São Paulo invites applications for two
assistant professor full-time positions in Probability and Statistics.
Applications are welcome in any research areas in Probability and Statistics that
complement and strengthen the current research of members of the Statistics
department at USP. The position-holders will develop, lead and sustain research of
international standard in Probability and/or Statistics, contribute to teaching and
project supervision at undergraduate and graduate levels.
The Statistics department is the home of one of the best and well known graduate
programs in Probability and Statistics of Brazil and South America, where more than
200 researchers have finished their PhD programs over the last forty years. The
Statistics department also offers an excellent statistics undergraduate program and
undertakes research of high international standard. We have research groups of
international excellence in many areas including
Regression Models, Methods and Applications
Stochastic Modelling of Interacting Systems
Time series, wavelets and high dimensional data
Statistical Modelling in Insurance and Finance
The gross salary is about R$ 11.000,00 per month with 13 salaries per year and 30
days of paid vacations. The position holder may expect to teach three courses per
year.
The selection process will be based in (1) comparison of research projects (see list of
topics above) and (2) lectures given by the candidates on introductory Probability
and Statistics courses at the level of a master or introductory graduate course.
