About
Summary
I am a recent postgraduate in Biotechnology at the Autonomous University of Madrid with a wet lab and a computational biology background.
Recently, during my Master Thesis, I had the opportunity to work in a molecular biology laboratory studying the expression patterns of cis-regulatory elements (CREs) in Drosophila melanogaster imaginal discs. During that time, I earned hands-on experience in general molecular biology techniques such as molecular cloning, DNA isolation and confocal microscopy.
Moreover, bioinformatics has been one of my favourite topics since I got introduced to it in my third year at college and, during my final project at university, I became familiar with RNA-seq data analysis tools and linux.
I love challenges and learning new things, so if you think I could be helpful to you in any way, feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] (✉).
Positions
Master Thesis Student Jan 2016 - Jun 2016
Severo Ochoa Molecular Biology Centre (CBMSO), Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)
Accomplishments:
- Performed molecular cloning and bacterial expression of Drosophila melanogaster cis-regulatory elements in GFP reporter vectors.
- Dissection and staining of fly imaginal discs.
- Obtained Z-stacks of high-resolution images of fly imaginal discs, employing a confocal microscope and analysed them using ImageJ and Photoshop.
Student Intern Nov 2012 - Sep 2014
Accomplishments:
- Analysed RNA-seq data with R and Bioconductor by following the TopHat and Cufflinks protocol.
- Assembled a gene co-expression network for Oryza sativa, commonly known as Asian rice.
- Identified and functionally characterised gene expression patterns and hub genes, as well as potential biotechnological genes, studying their functions and potential regulation.
