6+ years of work experience in microalgal biotechnology. Skilled in applied research, student and faculty training, project management including multi-institutional ones, and completion of targeted deliverables.
Positions
Post Doctoral Fellow Aug 2023 -
Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology, Durban University of Technology
Currently working on using untargeted metabolomics to look at metabolic profile of cyanobacteria and microalgae under chemical modulators.
Post Doctoral Fellow Feb 2022 - Jul 2023
Worked on targeted algal farming using chemical growth modulators for enhanced biomass and other high-value metabolites in microalgae. Also looked at the hormetic effects of antibiotics on microalgal biomass, PUFAs and tocopherols.
Research Associate Nov 2020 - Mar 2021
CSIR-Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute
Worked on using chemical modulators as a targeted strategy for biomass enhancement in cyanobacteria and microalgae
Research Associate Jul 2017 - Mar 2020
International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
Worked on untargeted metabolomics for identifying changes in cell metabolism under altered growth conditions. Also looked at using ionic liquids for selective extraction of pigments and vitamins from microalgae.
Project Fellow Mar 2016 - Mar 2017
CSIR-Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Intitute
Worked in a project for screening microbial strains for solubilization of potassium from feldspar for use as bio-fertilizer.
CSIR Research Fellow Feb 2011 - Feb 2016
CSIR-Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Intitute
I was jointly responsible for mass cultivation of microalgae in open salt pans for biomass generation. I was also involved with lipid extraction and transesterification processes for biodiesel preparation. Afterward, I have worked on developing biological applications from light harvesting, fluorescent protein C-phycoerythrin. We have investigated its role as an anti-hyperglycemic, anti-nephrolithe and sensitive sensor for metal ions. In conjunction with graphene oxide, CPE was also used for selective detection and quantification of double-stranded DNA.
Project Fellow Jun 2010 - Feb 2011
CSIR-Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Intitute
Jointly responsible for outdoor microalgal cultivation and biomass generation. Also involved with lipid extraction and transesterification of the lipids for algal biodiesel.
Education
Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research 2012 - 2017
Field of study: Biological Sciences
Degree: Doctorate
Worked on extraction, purification, and optical characterization of phycobiliproteins from cyanobacteria. Investigated their in vitro activities like antioxidant, anti-nephrolithe and anti-hyperglycemic activities. Also developed various applications like ion and DNA sensing using their fluorescence as a tool.
Uttar Pradesh Technical University 2005 - 2009
Field of study: Biotechnology
