Summary
My name is George Mermelekas, I am 34 years old and I come from Greece. I hold a bachelor's degree in Biological applications and technology and PhD in biochemistry and in particular on membrane protein structure-function relationships. I started my post-doctoral career in Michal Sharon's laboratory in the Weizmann Institute of science where I spent one year working on native mass spectrometry of intact protein complexes. The last 3 years I have been working in the proteomics department of the biomedical research foundation of the academy of Athens (BRFAA) as a postdoctoral researcher. In fact, I have been doing sample preparations from tissue, cell cultures and human body fluids (serum, plasma and urine) for a variety of projects using different techniques such as FASP, in gel and in solution digestion. In addition, I am one of operators of our LC- MS platform, an Orbitrap Elite from thermo scientific coupled to a Dionex ultimate 3000 nano-LC. Moreover, I have been doing data analysis (protein identification and quantification) using proteome discoverer, MaxQuant and TPP and pathway analysis using PANTHER, DAVID and mainly cytoscape and Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA). Finally, during the last year I had set up a facility platform for MRM targeted proteomics assays for biomarker validation using a triple quadrupole (QTRAP 4000, AB Sciex). Using this platform, we validate shotgun proteomics findings in a variety of samples such as tissue, cell cultures and human body fluids (urine, plasma, serum, saliva).
At this point of my career, regarding my overall experience, I want to work in a high quality laboratory where I can apply my knowledge and perform high quality research with a significant outcome using mass spectrometry proteomics technology.
My overall experience and philosophy (attention to detail, sense of responsibility, hard work and constant update on science development) as far as it matters the nature of my work, make me feel confident that I can meet your requirements and I think I can become a beneficial addition to your laboratory.

Data analysis of shotgun proteomics analyses using Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant and TPP. Statistical analyses and pathway analysis using SPSS, Ingenuity pathway analysis (IPA) and Cytoscape.
