About
Summary
José Alberto Carmona studied Chemistry Degree at the University of Seville from 2008 to 2013 (with an average mark of 7.71) and performed a full-year stay at the University of Sheffield (UK). Then, he stayed for a three months traineeship at the Institute of Chemical Research (IIQ) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in which he worked in the functionalization of supramolecular systems for their application as gene therapy vectors. After that, he studied a Master Degree in Integrated Management Systems at the International University of La Rioja. By the end of 2015, he worked as Technician for Research Support at the University of Seville, carrying out tasks regarding the management of research groups from the Organic Chemistry Department. At 2016, he joined the Institute of Chemical Research (IIQ-CSIC) as beneficiary of a PhD student research grant from the Junta de Andalucía (project FQM 1078). This grant, has allowed him to obtain the PhD Degree at Chemistry from the University of Sevilla in 2019, with the maximun qualification of Cum Laude. His PhD Thesis has been developed on the field of synthesis and characterization of organic compounds, more specifically, in asymmetric catalysis. In this context, he has overcome several projects whose relevace is stated by the research articles published in the highest level international journals. Thanks to one of these publications, he won the First Research Prize of cicCartuja-Ebro Foods at the 2018 edition. Moreover, he has presented the projects developed during his PhD thesis in different national and international conferences. After this period, in october 2019 he joined as Postdoctoral Research Assistant to a coordinated project between IIQ and the Biomedicine Institute of Seville (IBiS) through FISEVI.
Positions
Associate Postdoc Researcher Oct 2019 -
Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBiS)
Synthesis of novel heterocyclic aromatic organic scaffolds towards new efficient anticancer drugs. Design of synthetic route, working in parallel chemistry, including the isolation, purification and characterization of the target organic compounds.
PhD Student Feb 2016 - Jul 2019
Institute for Chemical Research (IIQ)
Development of several projects focused on the synthesis of enantioenriched organic compounds using asymmetric catalysis, both organocatalysis and organometallic. Skills as working under inert conditions, purification by chromatographic techniques, charaterization of synthetised compounds (NRM, HPLC, GC-MS) and laboratory tasks management, among others, were obtained during this period. The high level of the research achieved is evinced through the publication of those works in top level international journals. Additionally, several conferences those works have been presented in several congresses as oral communications.
Research Support Technician Nov 2015 - Dec 2015
Department of Organic Chemistry, University of Sevilla
Giving support to management tasks of the research groups at the Organic Chemistry Department.
