About

Summary

As a scientist, l am  interested in translating life science skills into solving real life problems relating to aging, neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases. Also, l am an advocate of inclusive science, life style changes and a science communicator via my social media platforms. I am open to new opportunities as Research fellow or post-doctoral fellow in the academia or industry.

Positions

PhD student Nov 2019 - Oct 2023

Institute of Pathology, Medical University Graz

Research Associate May 2018 - Sep 2019

IIsong Institute of Life Science, Hallym University

Graduate Student Feb 2016 - Feb 2018

Hallym University

Education

Medical University of Graz 2019 - 2023

Field of study: Human Medicine - Metabolic diseases and Neuroscience
Degree: PhD

I investigated the neuroprotective effect of Astaxanthin, a flavonoid using in preclinical models of Alzheimer's disease. For the in vitro evaluation of the neuroprotective effect of Astaxanthin, l used the porcine brain capillary endothelial cells, a blood brain barrier in vitro model and the Mouse Organotypic hippocampal slice culture, a 3D model of the brain. To validate the neuroprotective effect in vivo, l investigated the effect of Astaxanthin in multiple risk factors by inducing a diabetic phenotype using High fat diet-Streptozocin injection in APPxhQC transgenic mice, a transgenic line expressing the Swedish and London mutation of the APP gene and human glutaminyl cyclase, the enzyme responsible for the pyroglutamate modification of the Amyloid beta peptide.

Hallym University 2016 - 2018

Field of study: Medical Microbiology
Degree: MSc

I investigated the interspecie transmission of mouse adapted prion strains to transgenic mice expressing the ovine prion protein gene. The study suggests that prions are able to overcome specie barriers to infects animals from other species. Aside from this project, l also investigated the polymorphism of prion protein genes among healthy Nigerians

Ekiti State University 2008 - 2012

Field of study: Microbiology
Degree: BSc

I investigated the prevalence of Salmonella typhi among Widal positive patients attending the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital. Findings from the study underscored that treatment for typhoid should not be initiated until the causative organism is culture from either the blood or stool samples.

Skills

I have high degree of proficiency in molecular biology techniques like RNA extraction, DNA extraction, RT-PCR, RNA gel analysis, Western blotting, Enzymatic and MSD assays, Histological procedures and immunofluorescence. In addition to these, l also have skills in animal experimentation- in vivo studies.

Keywords: Animal behavior, animal handling, Cell culture and protein analysis (WB, IF, IP, FACS), critical thinking, Data Analysis , project management, research
