Field of study: Biochemistry
Degree: Bachelors
Began an Bachelors degree in Undenominated Science, studying Microbiology, Chemistry and Biochemstry.
In my final year I specialized in Biochemistry. During this year I studied the areas of molecular and cellular biology, advanced chromosome biology, biomolecules and modern biotechnologies.
As part of my course, I prepared a literature review entitled "Oncogene and Non-oncogene addiction in Leukaemia" which reviewed key oncogenes implicated to various cancers, and also non-oncogenes which have been found to be crucial in cancer onset and progression.
During my second semester, I spent a number of weeks working within one of the research labs at NUI Galway. During my time in the labs I familiarised myself with the environment and conducted various experiments in the field of cell death, in order to gain better understandings on the mode of programmed cell death, termed "necroptosis".
