I conducted work on the inheritance of torpor phenotype and consequences on telomere length variation in the garden dormice. I had to extract DNA and run qPCRs in order to measure telomere length and I used temperature loggers to asses torpor patterns. I analysed the data with R and presented the results as a poster at the SEB conference in Edinburgh in july 2023.

My job here was basically to watch the animals during the week-ends. I had to check up on the animals (mice, rats, rabbits and cats), make sure they had everything they need, report abnormal behaviour, or wound. I also had to follow up the birth of pups and report every death, adult or newborn, and dispose of the body.

I learned many things about bioenergetic, energy homeostasis, metabolic regulations and adaptations/acclimations to extreme environments. I also learn some laboratory techniques such as measuring enzyme activity, high resolution respirometry or cellular culture.
