About
Summary
I have just got my Ph.D. degree in July, 2016 in Zoology at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, India in the laboratory of Prof. Santi P. Sinha Babu on the thesis title “Molecular and biochemical evidence of filaricidal activity in botanicals and few derivatives”. During my doctoral thesis tenure we have elaborated the antifilarial activity of different extracts from the leaves of Azadirachta indica in the lights of altered redox status and upregulted apoptosis in model filarial parasites Setaria cervi and Dirofilaria immitis. Antifilarial activity of an important compound Trans-resveratrol along with a series of trans-stilbene derivatives was also evaluated. We found that the induced apoptotic death of exposed parasites was closely associated with the induction of the mitochondrial mediated pathway with altered expressions of apoptogenic proteins. Most interestingly, during assessment of the antifilarial potential of them experimental evidences suggested the probable existence of intrinsic and extrinsic pathways of apoptosis in nematodes which are rare in existing literature.
Before joining Prof. Sinha Babu’s group, I worked in the laboratory of Dr. Shibnath Mazumder in the Department of Zoology at University of Delhi, New-Delhi, India examining of signaling molecules and transcription factors in relation to Mycobacterium sp.
