About
Summary
I am a Pharmacist with master and doctorate degrees in Pharmacology.
During my undergrad Pharmacy course, I started as an intern in the Laboratory of Neuropsychopharmacology (UNESP, Araraquara) to study the potential of Brazilian medicinal plants in tests predictive for anxiolytic activity. Right after graduation I relocated to Florianopolis and started my Master in Pharmacology in which I worked in two projects, one of neuropharmacology screening of a Colombian passion fruit and the second, that became my Master’s thesis, in stress reactivity in female mice. After getting my diploma I got approved to the Ph.D. program to study mechanisms of resilience to stress in a mice social defeat model (Behav. Brain Res. 235 (2012) 55-66). During my Ph.D. I have mentored three undergrad students and established collaborations with two different labs. Also, I was a guest scientist in the LAboratoire de Pharmacologie de la Circulation Cérébale at the Univerté Paris Descartes for seven months, under the supervision of Professor Raymond Mongeau. I got my diploma in March 2017 and my thesis title is 'Resilience and vulnerability to social stress and its neurobiological implications'.

Evidence suggests that PTSD and mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI) have overlapping symptom profiles, share common mechanisms, and neural disturbances. In this project, we proposed to explore whether the combination of mTBI and subordination stress reduce mice capacity to perform fear extinction. This shall allow screening various pharmacological strategies for PTSD at the preclinical level.

Resilience and vulnerability to social stress and its neurobiological implications
Investigation of the modulation of the HPA axis in a social defeat model and its role in stress resilience and susceptibility, and how it can be modulated by the neuropeptide substance P.
