About

Summary

Molecular geneticist with a PhD in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (2024) specializing in mitochondrial DNA variations and their association with familial diabetes and cardiovascular disease. My dissertation analyzed mtDNA variants in diabetic families from Pakistan using Sanger & next-generation sequencing (NGS), bioinformatics, and pedigree analysis. I have 8 peer-reviewed publications (2022–2025) on mtDNA mutations in diabetes, PCOS, and coronary artery disease. Recently awarded a ~$39,000 national grant to develop Pakistan-specific genetic diagnostic kits for familial diabetes. Seeking a postdoctoral position to apply my expertise in mitochondrial genetics, NGS data analysis, and variant pathogenicity assessment to diabetes pathogenesis research.

Professional interests

My research interests lie in the field of molecular genetics and cardiometabolic diseases, with a particular focus on the role of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variations in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus and its associated complications. I am especially interested in identifying population-specific genetic markers and translating these findings into diagnostic and prognostic tools, particularly for underrepresented populations such as those in Pakistan.

I aim to integrate molecular biology, genomics, and bioinformatics approaches to investigate the genetic and epigenetic basis of complex diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and metabolic syndromes. My long-term goal is to contribute to the development of precision medicine strategies, including affordable, region-specific genetic diagnostic kits and biomarker-based screening systems.

I am also interested in expanding my expertise in advanced genomics technologies, such as next-generation sequencing (NGS), single-cell analysis, and multi-omics data integration, to better understand disease mechanisms at the systems level.

In addition to research, I am committed to teaching, mentorship, and capacity building in higher education, with a focus on training students in modern molecular and computational techniques. I am keen to collaborate with international research groups and industry partners to translate academic research into real-world healthcare solutions.
