Summary
Sheila Holz holds a first degree in Law (2000), an MSc (2009) in Territorial Planning - City Planning from the University of Aveiro (Portugal), and a PhD (2015) in "Democracy in the 21st Century" from The Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra (Portugal). Her PhD fellowship was funded by the Foundation of Science and Technology (FCT). She was a visiting student at the Università Degli Studi di Firenze, Italy (2011). Her PhD thesis analysed the importance of the law to promote practices of citizens' participation in the elaboration of urbanistic instruments, in Portugal and Italy. She has been investigating the field of public participation and democratic innovations. Her current research interests are the strengthening of democracy; democratic innovations; the democracy of knowledge; participatory democracy; participatory urban planning; urban innovations; the right to the city; co-creation processes; the elaboration and use of laws to guarantee fundamental rights.

Post-doctoral fellow at H2020 Project URBiNAT, "Healthy corridors as drivers of social housing neighbourhoods for the co-creation of social, environmental and marketable NBS", that is going to implement a Healthy Corridor, having the physical, mental and social well-being of citizens as its main goal. It is coordinated by Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra.
