About
Summary
I am a biophysicist in education, but have worked in multiple scientific fields over the years. Hence, I primarily define myself as an interdisciplinary scientist. Currently, I live in Taiwan.
For my master's degree, I studied shape transformation mechanisms of lipid vesicles. My Ph.D. was concentrated on mimicking the Nuclear Pore Complex via fully chemical means.
Later on, I carried out post-doc research regarding the mechanical properties of Bacteria, and then I moved to studying the oscillatory Min system of Bacteria via in vitro assays. In parallel, I studied the Cdv system that participates in cell division in Archaeal Sulfolobales. Additionally, I developed a platform for the production of synthetic cells.
After this period, I transitioned to brain science, with a particular focus on psychiatry and neuroimaging. In this role, I studied aging of the brain (Intracranial volume) and brain connectivity in relatives of people who were diagnosed with psychosis.
This work also led me to the world of plants, where I studied the function of GABA and Glutamate in plant physiology.
After that, I decided to move to cognitive neuroscience and, particularly, the study of conscious perception. Currently, I am studying the biological basis for individual differences in conscious perception. I concentrate on the correlation between genetics and attention, working memory, and unconscious visual perception. Similarly, I study the correlation between the gut microbiome and attention, working memory, and unconscious visual perception. Finally, I am interested in the relationship between the cerebellum (and more broadly the subcortical) and consciousness.
As you can see, what is most typical in my career is its interdisciplinary aspects. I hope to maintain this feature in the years to come.
